A Decade in Review (2010-2019)

As 2019 comes to a close, this visualization takes a look at some of the biggest news stories from the last ten years. Early in the decade we saw a financial crisis unfold in Europe, high unemployment rates in the United States, and protests in Arab countries. The middle of the decade was marked by social injustice protests, the Black Lives Matter Movement, the beginning of the Hong Kong Protests, and a Refugee Crisis in Europe.

The last third of the decade saw the Trump presidency, #MeToo movement, US immigration crisis, and weather catastrophes. Top musicians included Adele and Beyonce. Superheroes topped the big screen with movies such as the Avengers and Wonder Woman. In sports we learned of Armstrong's doping, watched Chloe Kim snowboard the halfpipe, and witnessed Serena Williams win the Austrailian Open whilst pregnant.
